After our big snow drop last week, there has been a definite spring feeling in the air, with more balmy weather and plants coming out in flower earlier than usual. Luckily the snow doesn’t cause damage like frost does, it can mainly cause branch failure when the weight of the snow on branches causes them to break. Like many people I meet, I prefer homegrown organic food to food that is doused in chemicals, especially those that are genetically engineered. Our family enjoys mostly organic food, whether home grown or bought. It certainly tastes great, and research has shown that there are more vitamins and minerals in organically grown foods compared with those grown with artificial fertilisers and chemicals. There is a growing demand for organic foods – about 20% per annum worldwide.
