This courtyard garden in Oriental Bay is exposed to
the prevailing salt-laden north-westerlies. The plants are all native,
coastal hardy plants, such as the puka and Poor Knights lily. When
using pots it is better to go with the maxim that less is more
Use bigger, bolder pots and the impact will be better than lots of
little pots. |
 |
This water feature in Newton is created using mostly
synthetic rocks. If using water features, it is essential that it
looks natural. You need to get the right conditions as well, as there
is nothing worse than a dirty pond! |
 |
This garden in Brooklyn has been built using concrete
flagstones, and plastered walls. In this sunny, exposed site hardy
perennials and native plants are used. |
 |
In this Brooklyn garden, the client wanted to do the
work himself. I provided the ideas to get a flowing garden. Trees
that were dominating the garden were removed, and suitable ones were
pruned to shape. The client has become very enthusiastic with their
garden! |

This inner city garden has had a tiled area created,
where there was once lawn. The lawn was often damp and weedy due to
the conditions. Planting is based on mainly roses and flowering perennials,
in keeping with the house. Access in these sites can be difficult. |
 |
This Whitby site has heavy clays and strong winds.
Plants have to be able to tolerate clay soils. The semi-circular garden
featured is made from sleepers. It conceals a manhole, which would
have been raised above the paved area. |
